"Life Signs" and Symbols is an art history lesson
as well as a celebration. This collection of paintings celebrates
universal symbols, which underlie and connect us all. Gathered
from around the world and through the ages, these symbols
are isolated here in paintings. Though simple in form, these
shapes have mythological significance.
Before the letter was the image. Images have had, and still
have, deep cultural and cross-cultural roots. Psychologically,
spiritually, and physically, we are still connected to this,
our ancient language. And though our culture has become one
that emphasizes the literate, we cannot, nor should we, forget
our much longer association with imagery.
Symbolic shapes communicate ideas of transcendence, life processing,
and Being. They give us clues and connections about our early
ancestors as well as the potentiality in ourselves. And in
the unfolding of this language we find we are still connected
not only to the Ancients but to other cultures today.
So let us celebrate our differences as well as our collectiveness.
